John's Story
It has been a great ride y'all. After Graduation I worked for Parker Drilling as a roughneck for a year. Then went to TSTI and took welding. By the time I got finished the oil field had slowed way down. So no one was hiring green welders so I roughnecked again for a while. Then I worked for a compressor maintenance company for 3 years. Then I met the love of my life, Kim, and was married in 1985. She has a son form a previous marriage but he is my son. In 1990 we adopted Marcus Allen Ashbrook. the Menace. In 1982 I went to work for Gulf Warren Petroleum. Was there for 23 yrs. Got a wild hair or mid life crisis or something and quit and went back to college. In 2005 I graduated from UTPB with a BA in History and worked at Monahans High School. Then the oil field got cranked back up and was contacted by my present employer. I am a contract pumper. I work exclusively for OXY USA. I love life and I am blessed with good friends and family. I wish everyone could have what I have. God willing we all will some day.
